Good News / Bad News

Well the good news is that We calculated what it cost for diesel to pull the trailer all the 1,501 miles to Cathedral City, and it cost $256.00 and we got 13.4 mpg!!! Sa-weet!

Bad news is this is Steve's breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week!

We gotta be healthy for the first wave of visitors who arrive Sunday next week! Dave is much better and began home remedies but it may be that he was recovering already.  Suppose to rain today so gives us good reason to hang at the trailer, tidy up, and begin making a shit load off ice as you have seen how much ice Ken puts in his drinks.

Bar hopping....

Downtown Palm Springs bar hopping....lotsa fun. Ended up at Digs bar just down the street (5 minute walk) from our RV Park. Had to do a little karaoke.

In the morning had to bring Steve to see a Doctor and he had to put mask on.....I could not stop laughing/snorting in the QUIET waiting room with 10 people sitting around!!!!

Adios Rick

Unfortunately our friend Rick (retired bus driver with Steve) had to go back to Vancouver this morning as his sister took seriously ill. 😟

Sat-Ur-Day

Sat around.

Free pizza night at RV Park. Headed to Digs then Barracks, 111 (Karaoke - sang "Okie from Muskogee"), Barracks. Pretty friendly place as we were given rides everywhere we wanted to go!

Friday night bar hopping

The RV Park had their "Hotdog and Beans" for a buck! Couldn't resist.

Headed out bar hopping and started at Wang's for $4.00 beer/R&C. Headed up to Arenas steet but Steve had to stop for a pit stop.

Hunters for the most fun dancing to the best 80's dance music, where we also had the best tasting Jell-O shots (sorry Veronica, but for some reason his tasted much better!)

Out on the town.

Headed to the "Palm Springs Thursday Night Market".  Three streets blocked off, stores open and vendors on the street selling everything including BBQ! Stopped in at the Village Pub and pushed our way to sit with three gals from Calgary, that had a cool table with a fire pit in the middle.

Off to Studio 111, walked in and thought it was senior night, but it turned out to be $2.00 well drinks for everyone including us young-uns. Ordered $2.00 Rum/Coke (asked for doubles and am sure the free pour was at least 5 ozs). Fun and friendly bar and even got a lift home!

Settled In

Pretty much settled in - home for the next two months. Wish we brought our Tiki Bar and the flamingos to put some colour and character to the spot.

Was arranging things in the kitchen. This was what was in the cutlery drawer. Who on earth needs 20 forks and 10 knives!!!

A bit of the park

Lazy Dayz

Sat around the pool getting our first session of sun! Pic of pool

Had to run to Walmart for a few things - all the major streets are lined with the most regal palms!  pic while driving.

It's starting to get back to seasonal temperature; 77!!
Beautiful sunsets on the way back from Walmart!

Orange Grove (Bakersfield) to Palm Springs (Cathedral Palms RV Park)

Up early-ish and picked some fresh oranges to take with us.

Departed Orange Grove RV Resort at 9:00 am, and headed east to the Mojave desert desert, but first had to climb 4,034 feet to the Tehachapi Summit. Pretty boring drive to Boron where we then headed straight south towards San Bernardino. Manuel the Moose enjoyed the landscape.

Tons of windmills scattered along the hillside.

Pulled into Cathedral Palms RV Park at 2:00 pm. Hooked up and headed to Walmart for groceries and el-cheapo spirits (60 oz Spiced Rum, $12.99; 60 oz of Vodka, $9.99!!!)

Redding to Orange Grove RV Resort (Bakersfield)

Well it rained hard all night and when we opened our door we thought we were in a castle as we had a mote....OMG! No matter where you walked you got your feet soaked! Awful! Showered, which was a waste of time, as by time we got back to the rig, we were soaking wet! Hooked up in pouring rain, dried off in the truck. But the next hurdle was to cross this bridge which the creek flooded over it!

Water was 8" deep, and flowing very fast.  No choice as it was leave or stay another night....oh well, we knew we had insurance, and wanted to get out of this godforsaken park!

After eight hours of driving in the rain yesterday and two hours of driving in the rain today, it finally stopped raining. Clouds persisted, but the temperature rose up to 63F!!!

Nice drive through Sacramento but thank God for GPS as there were a million exits, merges, but Maggie Magellan got us through it all.

Some cool things to see, but the highlight was Panda Cows! At least that's what we called them.
The next part of the trip to Orange Grove was uneventful, a bit long, but we were getting 10.5 miles to the gallon, woo hoo!! Pulled in and set up at 7 PM. Opened the door (you can barely see the dining table slide-out to the right) and will pick some fresh oranges in the morning to make Mimosas for breakfast!

Just kidding we don't drink in the morning, will only be rum dumb from the rum last night. Get up in the morning, and only 4.5 hours to final destination! Yippee-fu***ng-yay!!

Hee Hee to Redding...

Gloomy kind of morning when it was time to hook up.

Cleared up nice then through Eugene when we headed straight into heavy rain and wind! Almost stopped as we were close to being blown off the road and really couldn't see well as the rain was horrific.....but motored in. Made it through that then had to cross Siskiyou pass. Turned pretty good-clear roads and sun. People playing in the snow and the summit.

Made it through and the weather cleared up and lots of sun. Mt. Shasta was gorgeous!

However that didn't last long as the next 1.5 hrs to Redding (RV Park) was total low and heavy cloud with rain...ugh! Got to Redding, un-hooked and headed straight to Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen for chicken!!! (As seen on TV)
However, unlike the commercial, Slappy Mae was not behind the counter cooking!
Back to RV park for a few R&C to shake off a white knuckle drive. Unfortunately, forecast is for rain for the first 4.5 hours of our drive tomorrow! Sigh ☹️

Arrived at Hee Hee Illahee

Got to Point Roberts at 5:45 a.m. and began loading stuff from the truck. OMG -you would think we were going for a year! Our condo is empty other than funiture! Took a lot longer to get everything ready to pull out so didn't leave until 8:30 am.

Entering Canada was a breeze! Got to US border at 9:50 am. which is when the s**t hit the fan! Got issued an "Agricultural" check. Pulled over and had to go into the building as they thought Steve had a zucchini down his pants which he didn't declare! I'll leave it at that and they let us go after 10 minutes.

Clear sailing after that until just outside of Seattle when we had to go by this:

Three car pile up with one on its side! Thank god that it just happened or the tow trucks, fire trucks would have blocked the lanes when they arrived.

All pretty smooth for a couple hours, and Manuel the Moose was having a great time in his jolly jumper!

Few traffic delays put us further back so instead of arriving at 3:00, pulled in at 7:00 pm! Ugh...so needed a drink and food. Went and picked up a pizza, back to RV park, ate and a few good strong Admiral Spiced Rum, then to bed.
